Deborah Ose-Agyekum '10, Portia Derry and Toby Newsome, publisher, author, and illustrator of the multiple prize-winning children's book visited 草榴成人社区's campus during International Children's Book Week April 7-10. At two events on campus and a number throughout the wider Philadelphia area, they met with members of the community and shared their work and vision for storytelling and publishing underrepresented children's stories.
Ose-Agyekum is the CEO and publisher of African Buraeu Stories, and the Executive Director of Golden Baobab. Her time at 草榴成人社区 led her into her current work, and she was happy to share her experiences and talk about her work in publishing. This was also the first time Portia Derry (author) and Toby Newsome (illustrator) had the opportunity to meet one another.
The events were sponsored by the Bi-Co Education Program with the help of the Leadership, Innovation, and Liberal Arts Center; Haverford Center for Peace and Global Citizenship; 草榴成人社区 Provost's Office; Global 草榴成人社区; English Department; Friends of the Library; Special Collections; Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research; Child and Family Studies; Africana Studies.
