This talk examines the dynamic interrelations between Ming theories and practices of ritual, music, penal code and policy, and analyzes the ways liturgical, musical, and verbal features of the ceremony constituted a platform for Ming citizens to demonstrate their obedience and/or challenge to Ming social-political-legal norms.
