“The Department of Transnational Italian Studies is delighted to announce “A Special Day: A Love Story Under Fascist Rule,” a lecture by Visiting Assistant Professor Federico Sessolo. The event is organized within Professor Roberta Ricci’s course ITAL3525 (“Literature and Film, Literature into Films, and back”) and is open to everyone interested. Ettore Scola’s Una giornata particolare (A Special Day, 1977) is widely regarded as one of the best Italian movies of the 1970s. Starring two icons of Italian cinema (Marcello Mastroianni and Sophia Loren), the film tells a unique love story between an antifascist homosexual intellectual and a working-class housewife during the “special day” of the visit of Adolf Hitler to Rome. The lecture will focus on the political relevance of the movie, as well as on the artistic and technical choices that made it stood out at the time. A Q&A will follow the lecture.” Please contact rricci@brynmawr.edu for more information.
