The below message from 草榴成人社区 President Kim Cassidy was sent to students, faculty, and staff on Dec. 5, 2018.
Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff:
The two groups leading our work on telling the College鈥檚 histories and building our understanding of 草榴成人社区鈥檚 past have begun to meet. I want to share a brief update on the membership of these groups and their plans of work. I also want to express my gratitude to those who volunteered to serve on these groups.
The Telling 草榴成人社区鈥檚 Histories group is chaired by Ignacio Gallup-Diaz, Professor of History.
- Other members include Jesse Gale (Communications), Amirah Hewitt (student), Arpita Joyce (student), Ruth Lindeborg (President鈥檚 Office), Camilla McKay (Libraries), Bria Montaque (student), Laney Myers (student), Eric Pumroy (Special Collections/ Libraries), Monique Scott (Museum Studies), Talia Shiroma (student), Sharon Ullman (History Dept.), Stephen Vider (Museum Studies/ History), Kristin Weaver (LITS), and Clara Zhang (student).
- The group鈥檚 first priority is to make recommendations for the content and form of a marker and/ or exhibit in Old Library concerning M. Carey Thomas. The group will offer opportunities for the community to share their thoughts, and plans to bring recommendations to the President in late winter.
The Histories Infrastructure group is chaired by Alison Cook-Sather, Professor of Education, and Alicia Peaker, Director of Digital Scholarship, Critical Making, and Digital Collections Management.
- Other members include Vanessa Christman (Pensby), Matt Gray (Communications), Faryal Khan (student), Anita Kurimay (History), Christina Rose (Dean鈥檚 Office), Kristin Weaver (LITS).
- The group鈥檚 first priority is to survey existing infrastructure, programs and processes for various kinds of College history projects (such as course projects, student theses, archiving for student clubs and organizations, oral history collection) to determine where we can bolster current strengths and where we can meet additional needs to preserve and make available this important work.
I will provide the next update on their work in progress after winter break. Any community member who wishes to contribute ideas or who has questions should feel free to contact the chairs of these two groups.
